In life, there are many different types of stress that we endure. These stressors can be chemical from the food we eat, to medications or supplements we put into our body; They can be physical due to how we work out or the way we sit at desk all day; They can also be emotional, caused by family stress or the stress from a job. The fact is, we deal with stress all the time, but it is essential that our bodies adapt to the stress. When the body and nervous system is unable to adapt and change with these stresses, we end up falling victim to unnecessary pain, sickness, and disease. The goal of the chiropractic care is to correct the spinal subluxations that keep the body in a less optimized state. When the body can adapt and change to each stress it encounters it can create a strong foundation, both structurally and functionally.
An adjustment is performed when a subluxation is detected during the chiropractor’s examination. To do that, the doctor applies a specific force to the spinal segment and corrects the improper position of the vertebra. The adjustment facilitates better communication between the way your brain perceives the vertebral segment, spinal nerves, and its surrounding soft tissues. When the adjustment stimulates this change in communication it is called increased proprioception. Better understanding of the vertebral segment, its spinal nerves and soft tissues allows for improved alignment, decreased pain, and increased performance.

There are many wonderful changes that come with the miracle of pregnancy, then there are the uncomfortable changes as well. Our goal at Inspire Health Chiropractic is to make sure our precise adjustments leave you and your baby as comfortable and healthy as possible. As your body adapts, structural and neurological changes will occur, which can cause pain and affect the baby’s development or the birthing process. Our overall prenatal care will give mothers the opportunity for an easier, more comfortable pregnancy.
Any changes or misalignment in the pelvic area can cause the uterus to tighten, which reduces the amount of room for the baby and may lead to complications with getting the baby in the head down position. Adjustments relax the floor of the pelvis and returns it to a balanced alignment. The amount of pressure put on women’s body during pregnancy can cause intense pain in your lower back. With simple routine chiropractic adjustments, the stress and pressure can be alleviated. Our prenatal chiropractic care will ensure that your spine and nervous system are in optimal condition, which allows your body the capability to have a safe and natural birth.
Chiropractic care in pregnancy is essential to the maintain ideal space and positioning of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. Most babies are usually in the head-down position by 34 weeks gestation. Sometimes the baby does not stay in that position. There are several reasons for this. The most common is that there is rotation and stress on the uterus due to subluxations (misalignments) of the pelvis. By reducing the stresses being applied to the mother’s uterus, the baby would be given more room to move into the proper head down position on his own. Prenatal adjustments are proven to be very safe and highly effective at maintaining balance while mitigating pain. As the pregnancy progresses, the hormone relaxin increases, causing ligaments to soften and stretch. This helps the mother’s pelvis spread to accommodate the birth of the baby. However, relaxin also allows the mother’s pelvis to subluxate quite easily.
Dr. Perna sought after a specific certification, Websters Technique, which requires precise training in prenatal and active labor care.
“The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.” ICPA
The Webster Chiropractic Technique is highly successful in balancing the pelvis so that the baby can move as it needs to. This technique is a logical first choice for mothers and birth practitioners to seek out because it promotes normal physiology of the pelvis and its surrounding soft tissues throughout pregnancy. It begins the process of realigning the sacrum, which may relieve the pull that creates tension in the uterus. This adjustment is very comfortable and extremely safe for both mom and baby. Along with ideal care, the Inspire Health team will provide our patients with additional information through published articles and helpful tips to continue the best selfcare at home.
Many spinal problems seen in adults can begin as early as birth, or even during the gestational period. The infant’s spine and developing nervous system can be stressed during the birthing process, especially in the event of a traumatic childbirth. Disrupted communication between the brain and the body can occur at the level of the spine resulting in various health issues. Therefore, in our office we stress the importance of beginning chiropractic care proactively, rather than waiting for an issue to show up.
Some of the common health issues that infants present to our office with are colic, reflux, torticollis, irritability, poor sleeping habits, or breastfeeding difficulties. Most of the time parents have had little to no success with home remedies or medications so they seek our help believing it could be a spinal issue. Fortunately, all these common infant health issues can be safely evaluated by a pediatric chiropractor to determine if subluxations (misalignments) are present. Dr. Perna’s knowledge as a pediatric chiropractor allows him to evaluate the child’s spine to determine the area of subluxation (misalignment). After a thorough exam is performed the doctor will determine a plan of action. Typically, with infants the amount of time it takes to correct the subluxation is much quicker than in adults.
These adjustments for babies are gentle and many times will go unnoticed by the baby. Slight changes in the spine’s alignment can have significant effects on the child and expressing their discomfort by crying is the only way they can communicate. Therefore, it is important to have children checked regularly. Since infancy and childhood are times of such rapid growth and development correcting issues early on are essential to maintaining optimal health.
We all want the very best for our children, so why not give their body’s the opportunity to grow free from interference as early as possible. At Inspire Health Chiropractic, we understand that your child’s health is your top priority, which is why we offer a safe and natural way to correct the cause of many symptoms. Most of the time, it is not easy for children to verbalize exactly what they are feeling. It is our jobs as parents to not only detect, but treat the ailment, illness, or discomfort that they are feeling. Pediatric chiropractic care is well researched for detecting and correcting the root cause of ailments that affect children. Chiropractic adjustments are a natural and effective way of relieving many of the symptoms that cause discomfort for your baby. When performing an adjustment on a child, skilled and experienced chiropractors like Dr. Perna, need only use a minimal amount of force, like the pressure used to check the skin of a ripe tomato. Pediatric adjustments can even be performed while the child is sleeping. Our adjustments are gentle, comfortable, and extremely safe.
One of the most common reasons a parent seeks chiropractic care for their child is some form of trauma. Trauma can result from anything as small as learning to walk and crawl, falls on the playground, or even the birth process itself. These traumas create subluxations that can result in immediate pain and visual symptoms or even hidden symptoms that can lead to more significant health challenges down the road. Pediatric chiropractic adjustments detect spinal injury from these traumas, and early detection and correction can help avoid many of the health complaints we see children develop in the future. Pediatric chiropractic adjustments are gentle, safe, and effective at addressing your child’s structural issues. Proper spinal alignment and nervous system function is vital to maintaining your child’s health!
If you are active or compete in a sport, you have probably encountered an injury before. At Inspire Health Chiropractic, our doctor is trained at diagnosing and treating sports/athletic related injuries. We also pride ourselves on teaching our patients ways to effectively rehabilitate common injuries at home, while preventing future flareups. Dr. Perna understands the unique demands that being an athlete places on the body. With chiropractic care, education, and guidance, we provide the comprehensive care that you need to regain your health.
An injury such as a sprained ankle or sore back can result from or lead to poor technique when an athlete overcompensates for an injury, favoring one side of the body or one position. Sports injuries can lead to secondary issues if not cared for and corrected. An athlete will function and perform their best when limitations are removed.
Dr. Perna understands the demands placed on the body by various athletes. He also knows that very often shoulders, knees, ankles, wrists, and other extremities are involved in the injuries. As a result, Dr. Perna has a high level of proficiency when it comes to both evaluating and adjusting extraspinal joints. The ability to treat more than the spine in the athlete population is crucial to achieving a full recovery from many sports related injuries.
Research shows that Sports Chiropractic care is completely safe and effective for treating children and adults. Inspire Health Chiropractic will provide evaluation, functional movement screening with additional biomechanics analysis to address deficits in range of motion, muscle strength and flexibility, and proper form. Dr. Perna also emphasizes injury prevention, as well as recovery and performance care to ensure they are prepared to compete at their best for any big game or tournament.
Each stage of our lives present different types of ‘growing’ pains. From child, to teenager, and into our golden years, there are physical developments which occur that can be debilitating. Older adults begin to face unique health struggles that Chiropractic care is specially equipped to address. As we age, it becomes more and more important to stay healthy and active. While bones and muscles may weaken, it is still possible to be out and about and doing the things we love without any pain. Senior Chiropractic care is a great alternative to traditional medications when it comes to dealing with pain. There are millions of senior citizens who face chronic pain, arthritis, decreased flexibility, poor balance, joint degeneration, or other issues related to the body deteriorating over time. Luckily, chiropractic care has proven to have multiple benefits for the elderly, from increased mobility to decreased risk of falls and other injuries. At Inspire Health Chiropractic, it is our goal to help you function at your optimal ability by addressing the root of the problem through precise chiropractic care.
The team at Inspire Health Chiropractic understands that some seniors may be concerned about receiving spinal manipulation due to the delicate nature of their bodies. However, Dr. Perna has been specially trained to treat the sensitive needs of the elderly in a safe and effective way. The first step is to examine the spine to find any subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae in the spine). These subluxations can lead to many problems, from pain in specific areas of the body to long term immune system issues. Once we identify the root cause of an issue, we come up with a specific plan to address and manage these concerns. The patients will feel at ease as Dr. Perna not only addresses and corrects the problem but informs and educates you of helpful everyday modifications that you can do at home to avoid further ailments. Chiropractic is a safe and effective way for seniors to stay healthy, active, and independent.
When you are involved in a car accident, you may suffer injuries such as whiplash, musculoskeletal injuries, neck and back injuries, or soft tissue injuries. Seeing a chiropractor after experiencing a motor vehicle accident has numerous benefits. Whether or not pain is present, it is a good idea to seek treatment from a chiropractor within three to seven days of an accident. The sooner you can be checked out the better. While a negligent act leading to a minor accident might not warrant a trip to the emergency room, it can lead to unseen injuries. Pain and injuries can surface within hours, days or, in some cases, months after an accident. Failing to seek care can result in several chronic conditions that may take months or years to fully heal. Without a quick and accurate assessment of your potential injuries, you could end up suffering unnecessarily and having to paying thousands of dollars in medical surgeries or treatment.
At inspire Health Chiropractic we are knowledgeable in personal injuries caused by auto accidents and can help alleviate headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, muscle soreness, and other conditions. We provide personalized assessments and can make decisions on how best to alleviate a patient’s symptoms without medications. When a part of your body is injured, your nerve endings send pain signals to your brain to alert you of an injury. Painkillers interfere with these messages at either end of the injury, which are the spinal cord or the brain. Pain medications only mask the symptoms of an injury. In fact, they do not actually heal the damage itself.
When the spine is misaligned due to trauma caused by an auto accident, it creates nerve interference which signals the body to feel pain or discomfort. At Inspire Health Chiropractic we will remove this interference with chiropractic adjustments, which remove the pain and discomfort while restoring proper biomechanics. With chiropractic care, we will address the source of the pain and promote the healing of the injury. Our goal is to reduce pain and increase function by correcting the misalignment of the spine and allow the body to heal itself.
